Business Minor Summer Program

(Please note: Minors cannot be added to a degree program after graduation.
All minors must be complete and on record at the time your degree is awarded.)

Non-business students who want to complement their studies with a knowledge of the business profession should plan to complete the requirements for the minor in business. Students who pursue the minor are not admitted to the Leeds School of Business. Therefore, because of limited space in the required classes during the fall and spring semesters, students must complete the BCOR requirements during the summer term. With careful planning, students may complete the minor in two summers.

The business minor is designed for a wide range of students and provides
a valuable theoretical and practical understanding of the business world.

  • Enhanced entrepreneurial opportunities
  • Increased opportunities for employment and job advancement

The business minor program provides breadth of information in business skill areas such as:

  • Use of computers and statistics in business decisionmaking
  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Marketing
  • Management
  • Operations and Information Management (OPIM)

don't pass you will be required to take Finite

experience in business coursework.

***Students majoring in Economics or Psychology who substitute ECON 3818

in place of BCOR 1020. Please see a
business advisor for information on which

In addition to the required 33 semester hours of course work,
the following requirements apply to the minor program in business:

  • No pass/fail work may be applied to the minor.
  • The cumulative grade point average for all minor degree course work must equal 2.00 or higher.
  • Students will be allowed to apply no more than 9 hours of transfer work to BCOR classes.
  • Students must complete prerequisite courses as stated in the course descriptions.

Assessment Tests: Math
Students who have successfully completed Algebra II or higher in high school or college are encouraged to take the math assessment. Topics covered include: Rational Numbers, Linear Algebra, Exponents and Rational Expressions, Polynomials, Functions, and Exponentials and Logarithms.

There is no trigonometry covered in the assessment. Students who demonstrate proficiency in more than 60% of the material on the assessment will have the math requirement portion of their minor waived. Passing the math assessment does not give students credit in mathematics; therefore, students who pass the assessment will complete the minor with only 30 credits.

For more information about the math assessment,
see the assessments webpage.

Excel Assessment:
Prerequisite or Requirement

The Leeds Excel assessment will assess your preparedness for beginning your core business courses. The Leeds Excel assessment is a prerequisite for all Leeds BCOR courses and is a requirement for any student pursuing a business minor.
