Goals of the B.S. in Business

A B.S. in Business Administration provides students with comprehensive knowledge of many critical areas of the discipline. With the skills and knowledge provided in the degree, students are able to conceptualize and analyze the concept of business and problem solving as a system. Students are given the ability to present solutions to business problems in an understandable and useful form. The program provides students with excellent working knowledge, not only in the field of business, but also in related academic disciplines.

  • Students will acquire a general knowledge of the basic business core, which provides students a comprehensive understanding of the discipline's basic functional areas.
  • In addition to a broad understanding of the discipline, students will gain specialized knowledge in one or more of the five areas of emphasis. These emphases expose students to in-depth study and provide them with the tools necessary to solve complex business problems.
  • Awareness of the interrelations between academic theory and practice enables students to make effective decisions under conditions of uncertainty.
  • Students will acquire tools essential to successfully function in the rapidly changing business environment, which include basic communication skills, computer use, and an understanding of the international business environment.
  • Students will be equipped with mathematical skills sufficient to facilitate the application of quantitative principles.
  • Students will be encouraged to understand the importance of other academic fields, with special emphasis placed on the study of economics, political science, and other related fields.
  • Upon completion of a degree in business administration, students are expected to have the ability to solve problems by applying basic business principles to new and recurring situations.
  • Students will also be equipped with the tools necessary to conceptualize and analyze decision-making situations in order to facilitate solutions in an effective and timely manner.
  • Students will attain the ability to communicate the results of problem-solving situations, both verbally and in writing.
