How to Choose an Area of Emphasis
1. Taking the BCORs will give you an introduction to each of the 5 areas. Select the ones you may be interested in pursuing first. If you think you might like Management, take BCOR 2300 early on (You still need to meet the prerequisites though!). Taking the intro course should either confirm your interest or let you know you should try something else. |

2. Visit Career Services and Career Connections. Do a career inventory, research jobs available in the fields, and talk with career counselors. |
| |
3. Talk with the Faculty Advisors. There is a faculty advisor available in each of the areas to talk with students about their field and the classes you take in the field. They also host information nights about their area—watch your e-mail and CUConnect for information about these. Current office hours for the Faculty advisors are posted on the area pages and in the Advising office. |
| |
4. Research the curriculum and field. Start by reading about the courses you’d take in each area. Visit the Planning tools section of our web pages to download and read the different Area handouts. Read through the Area web pages to get a sense of each one. Then, research career possibilities associated with each one and what’s happening in the field. |

When you are ready to declare your area, visit an academic advisor in Undergraduate Student Services, and they will add an area to your record. |
|
You must declare an area by the semester after you complete 60 hours. Once you reach 60, a stop will be placed on your registration for the next semester. See an advisor to declare your area and get the stop removed before your registration time has started! |
