MBA Entrepreneurship Program

The entrepreneurship program is designed to give students both a solid in-class foundation in entrepreneurial business skills and an out-of-the-classroom opportunity to engage with the Boulder area’s active entrepreneurial community through mentorships, internships, business plan competitions, and networking. The Deming Center helps facilitate these activities for all students who indicate an interest in entrepreneurship. Sign up on blackboard to ensure that you receive notification of events and opportunities.

MBA Entrepreneurship Concentration

Coursework

Students enrolled in the Leeds School of Business MBA program may follow a concentration in entrepreneurship. This MBA concentration requires completion of three courses:

  • Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management
  • Entrepreneurial Finance
  • Business Plan Preparation

and one of the following elective courses:

  • Business Plan Preparation
  • Sustainable Venturing
  • Start Up Execution
  • Projects with Entrepreneurial Companies
  • Entrepreneurial Marketing
  • Social Entrepreneurship for Emerging Markets
  • An entrepreneurial law course (varies by year)

Additional Course Offerings

Courses integrating sustainability into business planning, operations, and strategy are constantly expanding. Additionally, interdisciplinary offerings with fields such as engineering and environmental studies help broaden students' understanding of how to design sustainable business systems. Students must receive approval from the MBA office before registering for electives offered outside of the business school. Sustainability electives are also available across the CU campus.

Educational Opportunities

MBA/JD with the School of Law
MBA/MS in Environmental Studies
Graduate Energy Certificate

Dual degree programs allow students to combine an MBA degree with a second graduate degree and to complete both degrees in less time than if they were taken sequentially.

CU-Boulder's graduate energy certificate program provides a broad exposure to energy issues, with an emphasis on renewable and sustainable energy. Required coursework on energy science and technology, policy, and business; coupled with electives on energy economics, journalism, and other topics, give students the skills and knowledge to tackle society's pressing energy problems.

Networking Events

The Deming Center brings in top-notch speakers, whose speaking engagements are often followed by sponsored receptions that give students the opportunity to get up-close and personal with entrepreneurs. Receptions provide a great setting for one-on-one time with our esteemed guests.  Check blackboard for networking events for students.
