Build Your MBA Portfolio

The MBA degree incorporates two curriculum components - core courses and elective courses. The core courses are standardized for all students and serve to provide you with the fundamentals necessary to examine a business problem from diverse prospectives. The elective courses are your vehicle to build a unique portfolio of course work to support your educational and professional goals. To help guide your decision making, we've developed a number of MBA portfolios that represent the most common areas of interest.
Building Something All Your Own
You can also use the flexibility of the program to build a unique portfolio that is tailored to your particular interests. For instance, you might develop a portfolio focused in management or in systems, choosing courses from those sets of electives. Or, you might develop an emphasis in sustainability, combining courses from several divisions and from other graduate programs on the CU Boulder campus. The MBA staff and faculty are available to guide your course selection and help you make informed decisions about which courses best suit your needs based on your professional goals.
You can also look beyond the course work offered in the MBA program. One of the advantages of attending the University of Colorado at Boulder is having access to the course work and expertise in graduate departments campus-wide. With approval, you can take up to four of your elective courses (12 credits) in other graduate departments on campus. You could also choose to combine your MBA with another graduate degree through one of the eight dual degree programs offered.
