Entrepreneurship
Build Your Dream Company
You have a vision, let Leeds help you make it a reality. For more than a decade, the Robert H. and Beverly A. Deming Center for Entrepreneurship has offered the practical knowledge, real-world experience, and innovative skills you need to realize entrepreneurial dreams.
Located in one of the country's most robust, creative, and diverse entrepreneurial environments, the Deming Center features outstanding faculty and strong connections to the Colorado Front Range business community. The Deming Center has taken a leading role in forward thinking initiatives like our Sustainable Venturing Initiative (SVI), Clean Tech Venture Challenge business plan competition, and the Sustainable Opportunities Summit. The Deming Center also serves as the entrepreneurial arm of CU-Boulder's campus-wide Renewable and Sustainable Energy Initiative (EI), facilitating technology commercialization by fostering entrepreneurial solutions and new venture opportunities.
You have the opportunity to engage in business development and technology transfer based on the cutting-edge energy research being done at CU and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). All of these programs are cooperative efforts to promote the development and commercialization of venture-grade business ideas that address pressing environmental problems and increasing global demand for energy.
The Leeds MBA gives entrepreneurially minded students the skills and knowledge to build and run their dream company.
The entrepreneurship curriculum emphasizes:
- Business plan preparation and execution - learn how startup businesses can successfully undertake standard business functions (organization, marketing, sales, advertising, operations, team building, and finance) with minimal resources (cash, personnel, and equipment).
- Create a sophisticated business plan within task groups from the concept through all the elements of a professionally written business plan. Leeds provides you with a high interaction with businesses and entrepreneurs.
- Sustainable and ethical entrepreneurship - focuses on environmentally sustainable business ventures and businesses that solve natural environmental challenges while achieving profitability.
- Entrepreneurial finance and marketing - addresses the marketing challenges that face the entrepreneur or start up firm with a limited budget in the development and implementation of a marketing plan. You will understand financial valuation, various sources of funds, the private and public venture capital markets, and preparation for, and execution of, an initial public securities offering.
