PMP Mentee Profile: Geoffrey Winter

I am a junior at Leeds and I just recently transferred to CU-Boulder’s Leeds School of Business. I am 24 years old, which categorizes me an untraditional transfer student. I am expecting to graduate in May of 2013 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance.

When I heard about the PMP program at my orientation here at CU I was super surprised to hear that it is free of charge. I thought to myself “How could it be that I could have the opportunity to have my very own professional consultant in the same industry I’m studying FOR FREE? This is an opportunity of a lifetime!!” Since I’ve been involved with the PMP program I have been able to meet more students and staff at the business school which has helped the transition phase much more enjoyable. The amount of support I have received from the faculty at Leeds has been completely influential on the opportunities and things I choose to focus on outside of the classroom. The students that participate in the PMP program share common characteristics academically and this has brought new friendships into my life that I would have otherwise not been able to achieve if I had not been involved. The PMP program has been a great benefit to my experience here at CU so far.

The name of my professional mentor is Tim V. Wolf and he has brought significant value and success to the companies he has worked for in the past 30+ years. He has incredible knowledge and insight into the financial world and I consider it a HUGE opportunity to interact with him. The interactions we’ve had so far are focused around my interests and wants and have been extremely useful to me. We get along great and we typically talk about the state of the economy, books either of us have read, his foundation, positions he has held, things he has done for the companies he’s worked for, and interesting questions I have for him. When we have time to meet, the meetings are always stimulating and refreshing for me. Tim has a very genuine way of being open to me and the questions I have for him which I consider a plus because I feel more comfortable to include him in my career decisions and the direction I choose to take professionally. The input that Tim gives me is completely invaluable and I take it upon myself to harness his advice as much as possible.

The most valuable thing the PMP program has brought to me has been my mentor. I am incredibly fortunate to be mentored by Tim because he holds so much experience in so many different areas I am interested in. I take it upon myself to take this opportunity and run with it and the PMP program has really benefited my professional outlook.
