Alex Burney

Deming Center for Entrepreneurship

Alex Burney is a bold, strategic, and pragmatic business executive and determined entrepreneur. He is a native of Ottawa, Canada but has called Denver home since 1994. At the age of 22, Alex won his party’s nomination and contested the 1990 Parliamentary Election in Canada’s capital city. He did not win, but the experience of taking on major challenges was invaluable.

By 1996, Alex co-founded and led LyncStar Integrated Communications LLC in Denver. LyncStar became the seventh largest private cable television company in the United States; operating in 15 states and 30 cities. The company’s assets were successfully sold to AT&T, Comcast, and Time Warner in 2000. In 2000, Alex co-founded and led Huge Hosting LLC. Huge Hosting was a web-application hosting company. Alex acquired the necessary private funding, purchased the hosting assets of First World Communications / Verado Inc., once the state’s largest publicly traded competitor, and achieved profitability for three consecutive years. Finally, Alex positioned company for profitable sale to Data393 in January of 2004.

In 2004, Alex developed and launched Huge Consulting LLC. The Company was a business consulting practice leveraging lessons learned as an entrepreneur and CEO. Alex advised entrepreneurs on the intricacies of private placements, sales and marketing growth, talent management, operational controls/metrics, and most aspects of launching, developing, and selling businesses.

In 2006, Alex’s consulting practice introduced him to what would become RavenBrick LLC. Alex co-founded the company and has served as CEO since inception. RavenBrick is the inventor and manufacturer of a comprehensive line of dynamic building technologies. The company created patented “active-passive thermochromic switching technology” to automatically manage solar heat gain for optimal energy conservation. Alex is responsible for the strategic direction of the company as well as, operations, sales and marketing, hr, and fundraising activities.
