Arthur E. Dawson

Deming Center for Entrepreneurship

Art Dawson is a Colorado Native having attended John F. Kennedy High School and the University of Colorado at Boulder where he earned a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1982. Art joined the DuPont company after graduation and for the next 15 years, progressed through a series of engineering and business management assignments. Among Art’s DuPont experiences were managing a project to “downsize” corporate headquarters buildings by three million square feet and acting as the Chief Administrative Officer for a startup subsidiary making women’s apparel. After leaving DuPont, Art held senior management positions at the AlliedSignal Corporation and Louisiana Pacific Corporation before leaving corporate America to start his own management consulting firm.

In Texas, it was easy to secure the name Flatiron Consulting which grew to a firm of 28 professionals assisting mid-sized companies ($50 million in revenue) in successfully managing their growth into the $100’s of millions and beyond. In 2003, Art created a lumber industry consolidation business plan for a Houston private equity firm. The firm decided to invest in the concept and recruited Art to lead the business as its CEO. In 2007, Art elected to change careers and return to CU to assist in the fundraising effort for the emerging biotechnology initiative (and, of course, move home to Colorado!). Art and his wife Kathy have seven-year-old twins Nick and Wendy. He enjoys backpacking, playing tennis and spending quality time with his family.
