Perry Evans

Deming Center for Entrepreneurship

Perry Evans is a serial entrepreneur with a long track record of success in online technology and media publishing businesses. He has founded and led the development of several notable businesses, including MapQuest, Jabber and Local Matters.

Through the 1980’s, Mr. Evans worked in the telecommunication services industry in Canada, with increasing responsibilities in product and marketing management functions for emerging technology consumer services. From 1993 to 1995, Mr. Evans served as general manager of the new media development group of RR Donnelley & Sons Company, leading the development of interactive consumer media products. This business incubated the formation of MapQuest, which was led by Mr. Evans as President of the MapQuest Publishing Group from 1995-1998. In 1999, a start-up formed by Mr. Evans, netIgnite, was acquired by Webb Interactive Services, a publicly traded media business, which Mr. Evans then led as President and CEO through 2001. In 2000, Mr. Evans led the formation of Jabber, Inc. and served as its Board Chairman through 2003. In 2002, Mr. Evans formed Local Matters which he led as CEO until 2009, when he became Chairman of the Board.

Mr. Evans holds a M.B.A. degree from York University and a B. Comm. (Honors) from Mount Allison University. In 2006, Mr. Evans was named E&Y Software Entrepreneur of the Year for the Rocky Mountain Region of the US. He sits on a number of company boards, and is a Board Member of the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at University of Colorado in Boulder CO, and has been an MBA student mentor with Denver University since 2004.
