Description

MBAX 6130 Sustainable Venturing is focused on understanding how and why business engages in creating environmentally sustainable products, services and markets. Researchers, policy makers and the popular press have all recently advanced the notion that a “green” economy producing both economic and environmental benefits is necessary and achievable; in this course we will focus on what your role as a business leader could be in bringing about this vision.

We will seek to gain an in depth understanding of the opportunities, challenges and rewards offered by sustainable venturing. We will gain an in depth understanding of the clean tech sector, specifically focusing on renewable energy, green building and organic and natural products. To do so, we will engage in case studies, host a variety of guest speakers and engage in active debate and discussion of a variety of books and articles. The class will be highly interactive and your engaged participation and presence will be required.

Objectives

Upon completing this course you should be able to:

  • Understand and articulate why environmental sustainability offers business opportunity,
  • Identify and evaluate environmentally relevant sustainable venturing opportunities,
  • Explain the drivers and obstacles for numerous sustainable industries
  • Draw on a wide range of contacts within sustainable industries in your career.
