BOULDER, Colo. --- Longtime Colorado real estate professional Sherman Miller has been named Executive Director of the University of the Colorado Real Estate Center.
The University of Colorado Real Estate Center (CUREC) is a high-caliber academic real estate program for graduate and undergraduate students attending the Leeds School of Business. With the active participation of the CU Real Estate Council, the program offers coursework, internships, networking and job placement assistance.
“The center is among the top ranked in the country, and I am eager to drive the new strategic direction for the center and engage our students, friends and supporters,” Miller says. Miller was serving as interim director after the departure of Executive Director Susan Watts last year; previously he was the chairman of CUREC in 2010-11.
“Sherman’s industry experience and leadership partnered with our expert real estate academics, like Tom Thibodeau, will serve the Center and its constituents well,” says David L. Ikenberry, dean of the Leeds School.
Miller was formerly the Executive Managing Director for Cushman & Wakefield. His responsibilities included overseeing the Brokerage, Property Management and Appraisal Professionals in Denver. He is a past chair of the Board of Directors of The Metro Denver Sports Commission, and a past President of the NAIOP Colorado Chapter.
Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield in 1995, he was the Senior Vice President/Senior Managing Officer for CB Commercial (now CB Richard Ellis) in Denver. Before going into management, his expertise was industrial building sales and leasing. During his eight year sales career, he completed over 3,000,000 square feet of transactions. Mr. Miller received C&W’s “National Branch Manager of the Year” award in 2000.
In 2006 he received “The Broker of the Year” award from the Denver Metro Commercial Board of Realtors and The Denver Business Journal. The University of Denver in 2008 recognized Mr. Miller with an Honorary Dean designation for the Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona.
“We are very excited to have Sherman as executive director of the real estate center,” says Leeds School Professor Tom Thibodeau, who serves as the academic director of CUREC. “We already offer great programs and curriculum, and he has the experience to raise our visibility to a wider audience.”
